Four Quick Tips

Exercise takes time and planning, and time seems to be in short supply. Ask someone how they are doing and you will often hear "I'm busy." Ask yourself this and you will often say the same thing. Sometimes if you unpack this busyness you will find things that if discarded, like watching television or playing Farmville, would free up time to exercise.

Reboot

I abandoned this blog for quite a while thinking I just did not have time, but with all the rebooting going on in Hollywood (Batman-good; Hulk-bad) I figured I'd better get my act together. My last big race was the Denver Rock and Roll Marathon last October. I went in injured, so that was not ideal, but was glad to have completed the training and achieved my goal.

I took a break and did some physical therapy, then in January began to think through my goals for this year. I put down 'marathon,' as I normally do, but it did not sit right. I sat there looking at the word for a while and thought about if that was really what I wanted for this year. The word did not resonate at all, it felt drab, gray, and wrong. I deleted it and thought some more. I needed something different, something new. I never thought I would consider it, but wrote down 'triathlon.' It felt exciting even before I added the 'n.'

Many of my friends are triathletes, so there is no shortage of knowledge and encouragement to draw on. There is also no shortage of stuff you have to buy. My bike is my Father's Day, Birthday, and Christmas present for about the next three years.

I am excited about training for the first time in a while. The triathlon has opened up a whole new set of challenges and opportunities for adventure. I started swimming in February, and yesterday finished an entire mile without stopping. A reboot was what was needed, and I am excited what each new day brings in terms of moving towards the goal.
